The new job is going great, in spite of the national tragedy that took us all by surprise when we went to lunch on Monday. My heart goes out to VT students. I'm from a college town and I can't imagine what it would be like if something like that happened here.
This Saturday was keep Georgia Beautiful Day and my small town (pop. 200 +/-, in which I hold a political office) replanted our Children's Garden. I was inspired to plant it last year on the site of a vacant buliding that had literally been allowed to fall down. We cleared the lot, put up donated fencing, borrowed child-size gardening tools from the neighboring University and let the kids plant squash, tomatoes, watermellon, sunflowers, etc. It was such a big hit that we decided to do it again this year. In addition to the kid-friendly, pesticide-free fruits and veggies, we added an herb garden for us foodies. We also added things like pinwheels and humming bird feeders and a picnic table with a bright umbrella to encourage families to come out during the day for lunch or a snack. I hope to post pics later in the week.
